© 2017 Grand  Hotel Brighton

Your stay just got greener and grander!

At The Grand, we’re delighted to have been recognised as a Gold level standard hotel by the Green Tourism Business Scheme. In 2019, rooms throughout the hotel have been updated with sustainable add-ons and furniture, as part of The Grand’s endeavour to reduce our environmental impact.

With the recent renovation to the stately façade with new windows and fresh rendering, we knew the restoration of the balconies would be a key part of the hotel’s charm. Since the renovation, we’ve carefully selected balcony furniture selected through Ovation which is both contemporary in style but kind to the environment. Surprisingly, it’s all made from milk cartons and ice cream containers which are diverted from landfill sites!

Coffee lovers will note that in-room Nespresso coffee machines have been updated with new compostable Eden coffee capsules. The disposal of used coffee capsules – often made with a mixture of plastic and aluminium – is a growing problem for the environment, but these new capsules reduce the problem as they break down into simple raw materials which can be re-used in compost.

Our new range of coffee consists of four distinctive organically grown coffees - Colombian, Guatemalan, Costa Rican and Italian Espresso Decaffeinated giving guests the choice and same great taste of delicious ethically-sourced coffees, without creating additional plastic waste.

Andi Hirons, People Manager and chair of The Grand’s Green Team, said:

The green credentials of all these products were very attractive to us and fit in with our focus of being a responsible business.

We aspire to achieve continuous improvement in our environmental performance, trying to lead the way locally, playing an integral role in protecting our environment now and into the future. Our team seek the highest standard of excellence in environmental practice without compromising our excellent service to our customers.”

The Grand also continues to stock Life Water bottled water in all guest bedrooms in addition to its dining areas. Life Water is one of the few bottled waters on the market which are 100% recyclable and, for every bottle of Life Water consumed, a donation is made to its charity Drop4Drop who supply clean running water to communities in need across the globe.
