This week we invited guests and the community back for another year of Christmas celebrations, carols and festive surprises at The Grand Brighton on Wednesday 27th November to witness our annual lights switch on.
The beautiful Victorian facade at the front of the building was emblazoned with 640 festive bulbs that were switched on by Gracie, a special guest from Sussex children’s charity, Rockinghorse.
Guests were treated to a carol service, preceding the lights switch on, by 40 children from Westdene Primary who sang a medley of Christmas classics including ‘Away in a manager’ and ‘Rockin’ around the Christmas tree’. The children enjoyed rounds of hot chocolate with marshmallows, whilst adult spectators gave donations towards Rockinghorse Children’s charity in exchange for mince pies and mulled wine.
The children’s choir was far from the only entertainment that evening. Acapella performers from Brighton’s Soul of The City Choir ended the evening with a magical rendition of Fleet Foxes ‘White Winter Hymnal’. The 164 choir singers lined all seven floors of the hotel’s iconic spiral staircase making for a showstopping end to the evening.
Andrew Mosley, general manager at The Grand Brighton said:
“What a fantastic and heartwarming evening to kickstart the festive season. We thoroughly enjoyed sharing this occasion with the Brighton community and our guests, it was a real treat to watch both Westdene Primary and the Soul of The City Choir give such spectacular performances.”
Emma Bright, Music teacher at Westdeane Primary school commented:
"The children had a wonderful time & thoroughly enjoyed performing in such a glamorous venue. Their families also really enjoyed being part of this very special event & many commented on the lovely atmosphere."
