The Grand Brighton Half Marathon 2020: Counting down to this year's 30th anniversary race

The Grand Brighton Half Marathon will celebrate its 30th anniversary this Sunday 23rd February, marking a very special 2020 race year for the much-loved half marathon.

We’re delighted once again to be the headline sponsor of the event organised by Brighton-based charity The Sussex Beacon, which provides specialist support and care for people living with HIV through both inpatient and outpatient services. The charity helps hundreds of people living with HIV in Sussex and the race is the charity’s largest annual event.

Widely known as the ‘happiest half’ amongst the nation’s running community, this year’s general entry and charity places have already sold out. Runners lucky enough to get a place in this year’s race, will have the chance to win a prize for a very Grand experience in addition to be greeted at the finish line by our General Manager Andrew Mosley and our concierge team.

All race-finishers have the opportunity to win a stay for two people at The Grand Brighton. Included in this year’s post-race packs, which can be collected from the finish line at the race village on Madeira Drive, will be one golden ticket for an overnight stay in one of the hotel’s luxury sea-facing suites. The packs will also include goodies from a number of the event’s sponsors, plus a 10% discount card to sample a selection of small plates and sharing platters at Cyan.

This year's 2020 event is set to be grander than ever with Olympic Gold Medalist, Sally Gunnell, due to open this year's race as an ambassador for the event's 30th birthday. The Grand Brighton, which sits at the heart of the race route, will also be hosting a performance by The Sundaes and solo artist, Alex Banks, from its first floor balconies which will run until 1.00pm.

The Grand Brighton Half Marathon’s Race Director, Martin Harringan, commented:

“2020 marks a very special year for the race as we celebrate our 30th birthday. The race has grown enormously over the past three decades as more and more people have taken up running and we’re so proud of the event it has become. We’ll be marking this very special race year with a 30th anniversary race medal, so whether it’s your first Brighton Half or your 30th, this is a year not to be missed!”

Andrew Mosely, General Manager at The Grand Brighton, said:

“We’re thrilled to be sponsoring The Grand Brighton Half Marathon for the third year running. As headline sponsors, it’s a real pleasure to have our hotel sit in the centre of the race course for an event that’s so special to the Brighton community. It’s always wonderful to see runners coming together in support of Sussex Beacon and many other great causes, and we can’t wait for 2020’s race to begin. Fingers crossed for good weather, and even better race times!”
